My DÉBUT ALBUM "To We the World" is now available to listen on Bandcamp, an online music platform that acts like a virtual record store! ๐ฟ It's completely free-to-listen, as well as creating an account and adding it to your library collection but PLEASE NOTE: after 3 listens of a song you will be asked to purchase. As it's my first main release, you an simply purchase the album or a single track for free, or if you're feeling generous to support my work, you do have the option to choose your own price, even if it's just to buy me a coffee! โ๐
The link is: https://thirdculturemusic.bandcamp.com/album/to-we-the-world-album
๐ OR see the Linktree on my profile or use the Bandcamp app or website and search my profile.
MORE ABOUT THE ALBUM:
This album has been a labour-of-love for more than 10 years, and draws on inspiration from my travels during this time, focusing on stories of people who migrate for various reasons, including some love songs.
The reason for its lengthy production is because the music is 100% self-produced by myself, driven by my voice and guitar but accompanied by various instruments from around the world, which I have passionately learned during the making of this album.
Many of the songs of this album are based on the stories or people I've met travelling and been inspired by, but there are also two tracks related to my family, including "The Lost Path" which is based on a poem about migration by my great-great-grandfather.
I hope you'll honour me with a listen and some feedback would be much appreciated, if you can drop me a message โ
THIS IS JUST THE FIRST PROMOTON.
I will be posting much more details and background about the songs, stories and process of making this album gradually.
At the moment, I'm full-time travelling and performing in Albania, seeking more inspiration for future songs and exploring the world of music. As it's just me, I can't post all the time.
There are articles I've posted on my blog about two of the songs on this album, if you would like to read a bit more for now.

“The power of crystal healing” These little gems ๐ โจ follow me wherever I go.
The first is an Obsidian (black), supposed to free us from desires and cravings, even obsessions and bad habits (of which many are possible).
The second is a Clear Crystal ๐ฎ, which not only enhances the power of the other crystals near it but also gives light on the future, allowing our dreams to be realised and bad events to be averted.
My aunt Bev taught me about the power of crystals in healing, and since I have met countless other people who harness their strength as well.
A little bit of “pocket power”, since I've travelled with them I can't let them go, they somehow root me with the universe and help me feel safe with myself.
Maybe they could for you too? ๐ค There's plenty to choose from, you'll know which are right for you ๐คฒ ๐๐ผ

Changing place - from a night to a few days to a few weeks to a couple months when I need the rest - the troubadour life may not be for everyone, but it suits me ๐ A child of travel, I find change a welcome sensation, as it reminds me the thrill I got when my family moved to a new place; I met new people, learned new things, tried new food, spoke new languages (badly!) and lived a new adventure.
Showing up, playing my guitar by the sea, the hills or the mountains gives breath to my soul - a feeling I could never give up, no matter the challenge sometimes (safe to say is majorly the
heavy load of my backpack, cooking equipment & tent!)
As long as I have a place to enjoy in a country that'll have me for who I am, I will come and sing and laugh with you (regardless of the language barrier) ๐คฃ

In March of this year, @natinature_art and I hopped a @flixbus to Budapest from London where we spent the winter in a countryside refuge ๐ฌ๐ง ๐ญ๐บ
We were so excited to discover this enchanting city and begin our tour of the East of Europe. We weren't sure when we got there what awaited us in terms of world music - and to be honest it was less easy to find than some places.
My studies of Hungarian music helped me track down a "táncház" (folk ball) where we enjoyed this charming show of local folk music and dancing. The violin-playing was superb and caught my ear in recent years when I came across Magyar (Hungarian) music recordings.
The songs also were so catchy - even though the language is not easy in the least. A unique language family from Central Asia originally, it's closest to Finnish and loosely in a way to Scandinavian languages - but the music is certainly more approachable! ๐ถ ๐ป
Good times from Budapest! ๐ฐ

Singing this beautiful piece of #balkanmusic @taracanyon Montenegro ๐ฒ๐ช for my new friend Ljubo, a local organic honey farmer and guesthouse owner. Sharing in the pleasures of this stunning natural beauty, we emphasise together the #naturalbeauty of #organicliving and #natureconservation ๐ฑ ๐ ๐ฏ
Great way to start the local @wbafestival ๐ถ
Scotland meets Spain in my next Celtic song video, where the mountains of Cudillero, Asturias evoked the memory of a song I learned and loved a long time ago when I travelled in Scotland. "Wild Mountain Thyme" is a true favourite in the Celtic repertoire, as it's airey melody carries well peace and serenity, as it sings of love and loss in a very natural place, much like I felt together with @natinature_art on the @troubadours.tour when we visited the Asturias region of Spain and came across this enchanting view on our walks to and from our campsite and the iconic village of Cudillero.
So much so, we filmed 3 videos! All of which are now on my YouTube channel.
So pleasant to share our discoveries and art while discovering more on our journey around Europe. Sincerely hope you enjoy this one, and this classic simplistic and beautiful song inspires the gentility and natural harmony that it gave me.

"A Montenegrin Market"
A scene from my current stay in the quiet village of Risan in Kotor Bay, Montenegro, during my travels with @natinature_art as part of the @troubadours.tour This lovely photograph was taken by Jennifer Huxta, a holidaying American who caught me with her camera during my weekly busking at the Sunday market, or "pijaca" (pee-yat-sa) in the local language.
This setting fits well with the theme of our travels so far, ecologically slow-travelling Europe by bus, train or hitch-hiking by means of performing music, sharing art and our languages and tales of travel.
It's been great with this way of life to immerse ourselves in local life, sharing songs and exchanging language, all at a low expense and for an unforgettable experience.
Some of the market-goers even delight to sing along with me when I perform my rendition of a sort of Balkan national song called "Djurdjevdan", best performed by musical icon Goran Bregovich and his band Bijelo Dugme (White Button), one of the big groups to have emerged during the Yugoslav era in the region, when many of the Balkan countries were united as the "South Slavs" under recognition of their shared language and culture.

"Hungarian Goulash (Gulasc)" ๐ As a foodie, I couldn't resist the temptation to try this typical dish.
Essentially a boiled stew with the quintessential ingredient: Hungarian paprika! Yes, Hungary has its own paprika, a staple in its national food. Different from the one commonly used in Spanish cooking ("pimentón"), either of which are not the simple one you pull off the shelf in a supermarket.
A less-spicy chili pepper - give any dish a fiery boost with papryka!

"First Stop in Budapest" ๐ญ๐บ ๐ป The first leg of the Eastern Europe adventures of the @troubadours.tour !
3 weeks ago we landed in the Hungarian capital, after a 2-day bus tour from London with @flixbus , foregoing our plans to visit the UK & Ireland and fast-tracking to feed our hunger for Hungary & the East!
โDID YOU KNOWโ
Budapest encompasses the two ancient cities of Buda & Pest, each on either side of the larger river pictured, the Danube, which runs a large stretch of the East of the continent.
๐ป MUSIC ๐ป
Hungary has some wonderful traditional music, particularly a characteristic violin-playing style, which we sampled when we visited a "tanchaz" or folk-ball (vlog upcoming!). The Jewish and Rom (Gypsy) communities have all thrived and shared their music as well here, as we heard lilting from authentic national restaurants in the city.
๐ฒ FOOD ๐ฒ
Hungary is actually very famous for paprika ๐ถ! This tangent, peppery spice different from chili pepper is a staple in Hungarian cooking - characterising the famous "goulash" (gulacs), as well as "paprikash". I live it - how about you? It's a different variety to the one you'll find in a Spanish "paella".
๐ They also serve around a lot of "sourcream" (tejfol) as well my FAVOURITE THING: "nokedli", mini egg and dough dumplings, not too different from pasta!
๐ฆ For dessert, they have a wonderful thing known as "chimney cake" (kurtokaclasc), a hollow spiralled cake in the shape of a chimney, which can be civered in cinnamon, flaked with pistachio or filled with ice cream! ๐
Apart from enjoying walks by the Danube, the historical monuments were very impressive, as well as the uniquely-styled churches. We stayed in a very fun old apartment block with an open courtyard and an old-fashioned lift with closing shutters I've only seen in old movies! ๐ฌ
๐ HIGH POINT though was the infamous "thermal baths" of the city, springing from natural hot pools underneath. For €9 (£7) - OR 3600 in the local "forint"- enjoy an all-day natural spa of varying temperatures going up to 38°C ๐ฅ Soooooooo relaxing... best to cool of afterwards with a chimney cake ice cream ๐ฆ

"Have you ever dreamed of going far, very far, to the other side of the world? For Sam Crónin, it became a reality very early on, sometimes joyful and sometimes more violent, experienced as so many uprootings.
A child of travel, Sam grew up between the cultures of the Middle East, Africa, Holland and England. For the friends and characters who populate his songs, the feeling of forced exile rubs shoulders with the serene joy of the present moment.
Between philosophical tales and catchy melodies, Sam loves words that ring true, life stories that touch his heart. He therefore takes the time to live in each culture explored, like an anthropologist who observes, listens and questions, until he becomes friends.
Faithful to the spirit of the Troubadours of yesteryear, his guitar still on his back, a smile on his face and a heart open to the unknown, Sam Crónin has been traveling the paths of the world and human emotions for more than 10 years. With only one desire: to continue!"

Next concert announced this weekend in my hometown in Wiltshire, England ๐ฌ๐ง ๐
The Barge Inn is a lovely old pub and inn-house on the Kennet & Avon canal I enjoyed visiting with my parents during my brief stays and visits there as an expat child. Named for the traditional canal-boats still widely in use along the waters of the Kennet, the pub has welcomed travellers and musicians throughout its long history, as well as providing a camp-site ๐ ๐
I can't wait to make my first impression here as a travelling musician and a local, I suppose! Not sure what to expect but I'll of course be bringing my best tunes from my time abroad, past and new, as well some local flavours which I'm sure they'll appreciate ๐ ๐ถ
Here's to home and touching back at base ๐ป I'm sure the cider & ale will flow generously to welcome my modern stories and traditional ballads ๐ป ๐ I've even got a card up my sleeve, as one of my songs features a particular "white horse" which is actually close at view from this charming drinking establishment ๐

Part 3 of the @troubadours.tour discovery of Portuguese Fado Music ๐ต๐น ๐ถ
This wonderfully-dressed singer is a great example of the significance of the female voice in fado music. Headlined in the last century by the incomparable Amalia Rodrigues, dubbed the "Queen of Fado", it is actually more common to hear women singing fado ๐คตโ
Often dressed in dark colours like the queen herself - to represent the mournful, nostalgic feeling of the music (best represented by the concept of "saudade"), it's true the music works a delight with the femenine touch, as most of the stars have been so.
Saudade in tow, it's not strictly sentimental, and as we've discovered fado is equally joyful and entertaining as it is sorrowful and spiritual. ๐ค

Part 2 of our series of Portuguese "Fado" music from our travels on the @troubadours.tour ๐ต๐น
โDid you know the Portuguese guitar existed everywhere in Europe at a time, an ancestor of the modern guitar, but for some reason was only retained in the music of Portugal?
Hard to understand why, with its glorious tone and captivating charm and design ๐ถ See a full picture on our channel @troubadours.tour
Personally, fado always puts me in a good mood, even the sombre-sounding, melancholic songs... It was great at this fado bar in Lisbon to hear the variety in moods the genre presents, as well as the array of voices as this man demonstrates.
#fado #visitportugal #worldmusic
A little gem we discovered during the musical adventures of the @troubadours.tour ๐ ๐ถ
โHave you ever heard of Portuguese "Fado" music?
Coming into Portugal from the south of Spain, where "flamenco" music boiled the blood and fired our souls, the music of Portugal eluded us. We knew of it but our preconceptions were something very mournful, brooding and melancholy - as opposed to the soulful rhythm of Andalucia ๐
But surpise be on us! After three months in the country, our souls were enriched by the clever tapestry of music that is fado, as presented here during a concert we attended at a small "fado bar" in the old city of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.
Driven by a rhythmic classical guitar and led by the iconic "guitarra portuguesa" (Portuguese guitar), these intertwine with a characteristic solo voice telling stories and poetry of life in Lisbon.
A real delight for the ears, we hope you enjoy it!

Teaching English online can be fun and rewarding ๐ ๐ธ ๐ฌ๐ง
Both in terms of cash and enjoyment, in this global world what better way to spend a cold, windy winter's day than talking to someone in another country, learning about each other and the other's culture, and having them pay you a tip for your contribution?! ๐ช ๐
I love my language, and I love travelling. Through Preply and my private lessons, I get to share it with new people worldwide, help them develop their Global English for a cause unique to them - whether it be travel, economic migration, leisure, fun or business!
A compliment to my life as a travelling musician, which is dependable on a number of factors that can be unpredictable, I enjoy travelling online through a headset while travelling in real-life too!
The world opens up more and more and life becomes richer and richer for all these little talks.

Recently, on the @troubadours.tour we attended a Spanish cooking class, at the very same place I had given a *world songs concert* the week before! ๐ ๐ถ
Paella was the "pièce de résistance" (centre-piece, as the French might say), but to complete the table we also enjoyed:
• Spanish olives
• Mais fritos (fried Maize snack - delicioso!)
• Chufa (a creamy, sweet drink made from "tiger nuts")
• A sweet goat-yoghurt flan dessert
To top it off, I donned my guitar and began an excerpt of my newly-acquired Spanish repertoire, quickly developing into what you see here: my first public attempt at the incredible, but challenging art of Flamenco performance ๐ ๐

Sam reminds us the importance of Geography ๐
On the road, there are so many names - of people and places - to keep track of, same as any transient lifestyle. ๐ฌ
In this video, an out-take of our previous "Tavira Gypsy Wedding" world music explorer vlog, he shows us why it's important to be good at recognising and remembering names of foreign places, no matter how unusual to us or confusing they may be! ๐

Remembering this great gig in Portugal at the start of the summer โบ ๐ธโ
This was a very memorable night at @baz_minnies_irishbar_quarteira , just along from the tourist partyland of Albufeira, on this busy, sunny side of the Portuguese coast ๐ฅณ ๐ป ๐ โต ๐ โฑ ๐ต๐น
Normally hosting karaoke nights, Baz offered me a concert with *nearly* a full-setup... A mic stand ๐ค wasn't available, so I made do with a bendable clip-on table stand that kept having the uncanny ability to drop at poignant moments of the song! ๐คฃ
But we MADE THE MOST, and had a real blast! As you can see in the video, the crowd were very entertained (and well-watered! ๐ป)
Baz invited me back later for a second run, but as befits my profession, I was well on the road to explore more of this wonderful country with @natinature_art on the @troubadours.tour ๐ถโ๏ธ ๐ธ ๐
Slaínte to new acquaintances, good times and adventure! ๐ ๐ซ And thanks to the crew at Baz & Minnie's!

What seems impossible is always possible: are you willing?
Just shared this with one of my English students ๐
A quote that's always stood by me. I've often been said about that when I set myself a task, I complete it. And I feel that.
I always say a will paves the way - I wouldn't be a travelling musician without this philosophy.
In my case it was more of a imperative conviction; I wouldn't do anything else... I could, and I wouldn't be satisfied. I prefer to struggle for my goal, because goals are important.
One life. FIND YOUR WILL. Find your way.

Reflections of the recent gig in #gruissan !๐ซ๐ท ๐ as part of the @troubadours.tour ๐
Superb turnout Saturday before last for my second organised time entertaining a French audience, with my collection of world songs, folk and contemporary ๐ถ
An Arab theme began the afternoon - some of the listeners still digesting their Beef Tagine, the Moroccan delicacy we all learned to cook before the gig, as arranged by the wonderful hard-working community helpers of the @mjc.gruissan ๐ ๐ ๐ฅ ๐ฒ๐ฆ
From Ireland to Spain, the 60s to the 80s, the days of yore to the days of youth, a concert with me is a travel in time and place - and I felt the strong vibe the audience were very entertained by it all, and were "entre d'étoiles" ๐ซ when I had them all sing some French Variety classics ๐ซ๐ท
~ Oh la, la vie est belle ๐ Merci beaucoup to everyone who contributed!

Next GIG approved in Gruissan in the south of France on the Mediterranean coast โฑ
๐ Also, the organisers have advertised it in the local magazine, so very thrilled about that - AND following the celebration of the Fête des Musiciens in the morning ๐ถ ๐
So happy to perform in another cultural centre, as we love these 'drivers of the arts' wherever we've been on the @troubadours.tour ๐ถ ๐จ ๐ญ

New live gig booked! An intercultural event featuring Irish music and Moroccan food.
The @mjc.gruissan (Maison de Jeunesse et Culture) of Gruissan - where we find ourselves currently on the French leg of the @troubadours.tour - have kindly agreed to host me at this event where I will be entertaining the local crowd after they enjoy a cooking class then a dining of Moroccan cuisine.
They've advertised an Irish repertoire, but I'm gonna throw in some international classics and even... some "chanson française" - as I've been well on learning the local hits (not too shabby on speaking it either!)
Wish me luck as I embark on another adventurous musical undertaking that's gonna feed me well to sing my best.

It's so nice when travel and music memories reappear from the blue...
An old acquaintance from a trip I did in Cornwall - a lovely Celtic peninsula on the south-west of England - emailed me this once, striking a chord with a wonderful memory from our trip long past.
This was a sketch drawn up by an artist at the surf hostel we were all staying at, where we spent our evenings singing together in the little safe harbour of Newquay on Cornwall's west coast.
A testament to friendship, conviviality and the role of music and art in bringing people together and capturing memories.

"La vie de troubadour"
As a travelling musician, I love nothing more than wandering through wild landscapes in a foreign land, to find a place to share my music with unsuspecting fellow travellers ๐ถโ๏ธ ๐ธ ๐ถ
I love bars and live gigs as much as anyone - but for me nothing compares to the calm sensation of walking to the roar of the sea, like this day on the south-west coast of Portugal, then spotting a gentle place to share the pleasure of my music with surprised - and always delighted - visitors to the backdrop of a scenic vista ๐ โฑ
The melody of medidation tames the moment and we are all happier for it.
Who knows - maybe soon you'll catch me playing at a beautiful place near you? ๐ฌ ๐

Carrying my home on my shoulders. ๐
Minimalism and simplicity has always been important to me, and travelling has taught me that. With a tent for two, basic cooking equipment, clothes, sleeping bag and some different-weight blankets - plus guitar of course - and a small bag for convenience items, much can be achieved!
The new modern backpacks really "take the load of your back" and with this I have traversed the Iberian Peninsula already and never wanted for anything more.
I feel happy when my backpack is again on my shoulders and I'm ready to face the world with all I need to have a good life ๐ ๐
A guitar acts as my companion ๐ธ and with it I am always in company, as well as prepared for my new awaiting acquaintances...

Ain't everything better together?...
One of the joys for me as a travelling musician is meeting other musicians and having the opportunity to play together ๐ In English this is "jamming" and the true joy of playing music.
I will never forget this concert in Portugal where OUT OF NOWHERE I was joined by Belgium-based Dutchman George, a brilliant player of the Cajón, a box drum originally from Peru but now common in much Latin-Spanish and World music ๐ ๐ถ and now IRISH! ๐ ๐ฎ๐ช
**Interesting Fact: George quickly elevated to a position of immense greatness, as he very cleverly fixed my 'slightly-damaged' guitar in his workshop, a job that has cost me min. 80 EUROS previously!... ๐ ๐ธ **

It's hard being a World Music Explorer...
Relaxing after a Portuguese Fado concert in the beautiful riverside town of Tavira in the authentic Western Algarve of the nation's paradise coast, we thought we'd had enough of folk music for one day - choosing to cool our fadoed emotions with a coffee and a pashtel DE NATA ๐ โ When out of nowhere...!
A gypsy duo appear in front of us with a large audience, to enjoy drinks at the bar opposite and enjoy a concert. A lady on the accordion ๐ช and a man singing very powerfully, with a lot of soul, and occasionally tapping a triangle ๐บ๏ธ ๐ ๐ถ
Gypsy accordionists play everywhere in the Iberian peninsula, often seen squatting with a squeeze-box on a sidestreet somewhere.
We never found out exactly what was going on - but we presume there was a celebration to be had, and this wonderful part of Portugal, when ya gotta celebrate you hit the streets SINGIN'!!! (Tralalalala) ๐ช ๐ป ๐ถ

Adios to Asturias and the Spanish and Portuguese legs of my adventures sharing music in Europe ๐ช๐บ ๐ช๐ธ ๐ต๐น
Asturias is a beautiful, autonomous region in the centre of northern Spain. An Atlantic sea-sider and neighbour to Galicia (where I visited last November), Asturias is a favourite for Spanish tourism thanks to its wild mountain ranges, breathtaking scenery, unique and breathtaking coastline, plus many local delicacies including famous apple cider ๐ป ๐
I spent two weeks here at the campsite of Cudillero with @natinature_art as part of the @troubadours.tour!
I loved the Celtic connections in this region of Spain previously unknown to me, and felt like singing this song - an English folk song praising the Spanish people (paticularly the women! ๐) from the 18th Century Wars of Napoleon, which I've been perfecting in a Spanish rhythm ๐ ๐ถ
NOW on to France ๐ซ๐ท Oh la la! ๐ฅ ๐ฅ

FIRST SALES OF MY FIRST ALBUM EP ๐

A soundtrack for the 21st June Summer Solstice...
A tribute to Celtic pagan roots as celebrated every year at this time in my home near Stonehenge in Wiltshire, UK
Born in Wiltshire, South-west England, before a quick leap to Nigeria, it was 19 years before I had the opportunity to really know it.
A beautiful place, but always a distant memory, certain scenes of its long valleys and ancient ruins often returned to my mind when questioning home and belonging.
On my inevitable return, I grew a fond admiration of the place at last, cycling my bicycle through its magical landscapes, walking my dog on its misty plains; simple things such as enjoying the passing of seasons - the flowers of the spring, the "quaint-ness" of winter.
I decided… going "home" was just another adventure. One more trip somewhere new, and I treated it as any other. There's always something unexpected, different, "unusual" and ultimately - exciting!
— History —
The "standing stones" of Stonehenge and Avebury have been a Celtic "mecca" (place of pilgrimage) for over a thousand years, and today many people flog from the crowded cities to enjoy its fresh, natural air, friendly communities and eternal wonder.
At this time of the year, the Solstice Festival unites people with drums and music to welcome the new sun! ๐

"Adeus Portugal!" and the Portuguese leg of the @troubadours.tour ๐ ๐ต๐น Samba send-off in the iconic city of Porto.
Thanks to a wonderful three months, Portugal, with the 10 gigs in the Algarve, enjoying your sardinhas and pastel de nata, your peixe, pão and picturesque coastline.
Then Alentejo, Lisboa, Aveiro and finally - Porto! The beautiful, bustling, busy metropolis at the mouth of the Douro, where we spent our last night yesterday with a spot of singing down by the waterfront.
A crowd were entertained into a cheer with a set of classic favourites, and then to finish - the crème de la pastel - my one Portuguese song (albeit "origem do Brasil!") -> "Mas que nada!" ๐บ ๐ง๐ท ๐ฅฅ

My contribution to join the many in aid of Ukraine ๐บ๐ฆ An Irish rebellion to Russia โ ๐ณ
I doubt many can not feel the injustice of the current conflict...
Inspired by the freedom marches from Ukrainians living in other countries, as I witnessed recently during my travels in Spain, I couldn't help but be inspired by the solidarity and comradery driven to push the Russian government and its belligerent state-controlled army out of the country.
The conflict has affected many of us and touched many hearts, shown in the way the world has reacted to the crisis.
I couldn't help but feel the need to sing this after observing the marches, and all but one person were entertained on this quiet side-street of Estepona: A Russian supporter proudly belts out his window at the end of the song! ๐

Austrian film-maker Pedro Salvadore filmed this performance or "Father & Son" by #catstevens
Pedro was cooking in his hotel room on #marbellabeach when he heard my singing from the boardwalk below!
He rushed down to record me and interview me, and tell me how well I sang and performed this classic song, an emotional dialogue between a parent and a child when the son decides to leave.
One of my own Dad's favourites and always makes me think of him when I'm on the road abroad...

How to be a camping chef:
1. Buy a good apron. MOST IMPORTANT!
2. Buy things that can you can prepare easily without heating e.g. Couscous only needs cold water. Then add simple vegetables and your away!
3. Spice it up! Wherever you are there are unique flavours that can turn your food gourmet - Paprika, curry powder, Herbs de Provence, Chinese 5-spice - create world cuisine with simple shop goods ๐
4. Bread, cheese, and beans - we use wraps to make life easy ๐ Can't beat a good burrito!
5. Season with salt, pepper & coriander or parsley.
Loads more tips out there but this works for us at the @troubadours.tour
Healthy, vegetarian, easy to store, carry and prepare - and much better than what you can find in restaurants.
๐ DON’T FORGET THE DESERT!
*Also very important, in Portugal it has to be the famous "Pastel de Nata" (Custard Tart) ๐
Best enjoyed warmed in the sun. Yum Yum!
ใDo you have any camping cooking tips?! Let us know in the comments! ๐ ๐จ๐ณ ๐ฉ๐ณ ๐

"My beautiful Oud & Arab adoption"
It's been a long time since I lived in the Middle East, but my love for this centrepiece of Arabic music is forever. A throwback to my 9 years as an adopted Arab, which I carry with me everstill.
This one comes from the small oud-makers in Souq Waqif, Doha and stays with my uncle in Andalucia, Spain.
I get carried away playing this wonderful instrument - it has a delicate sound and it's large boat design really resonates in your chest as you play it.
Featuring on my upcoming album, OUT SOON, and hopefully future releases.
๐ Who knows, one day I may take it around Morocco ๐ฒ๐ฆ ๐ซ โบ
๐ฌ What do you think of this instrument? Do you like it?

"Watch me as I work away" ๐
Workaway is a great platform for travellers. By buying an annual subscription of €50, you have the ability to apply to hundreds of hosts worldwide who provide accommodation, food and necessities in exchange for short-term work.
So far, on my @troubadours.tour with @natinature_art we've worked on a "finca", a natural villa in Andalucia, Spain, and more recently on an agro-tourism farm in the Algarve, Portugal.
These have provided great spots for a home-base while I book my gigs and we can explore our opportunities as artists and music explorers.
๐ Could it be something you'd be interested in when travelling? ๐ค ๐
P.S. The Donkey in the picture is Marmelo, who became a great friend of mine as I fed her twice a day during our farm-stay. I miss her so much!!! ๐ข ๐คง #nomadlife #slowtravel #travellingmusician
Music has always crossed boundaries...
A French language ballad from a Belgium composer translated by an Englishman and performed by a Dutchman on a Portuguese guitar.
This is my rendition of the famous song "Port of Amsterdam" which I first heard by David Bowie and then heard a lot sung by *relaxed* Bretons during my travels in France ๐ซ๐ท โ
The minor key and haunting tempo really suit the "Guitarra potuguesa" playing of virtuoso and accomplished musician O Caracol ๐ ๐ถ
A wonderful tune and I feel very blessed to play with such a great musician demonstrating the fabulous Portuguese treasure in the heart of a fishing village on the Algarve coast of Southern Portugal ๐ต๐น
That's all for this feature for now - but who knows what I'll find as I venture soon to the home of the national music, Lisbon and on northwards! ๐งญ ๐ถโ๏ธ ๐ ๐ธ ๐

In Part 3 of the Portuguese Guitar, hear what the guitar accompaniment is like!
Many instruments sound great with a guitar partner and the Guitarra Portuguesa is no different. The Portuguese national music "fado" is traditionally made up of just voice, guitar and "Guitarra (Portuguesa)"
In this video, O Caracol, the veteran traveller from Holland demonstrates the guitar in the Gypsy Jazz style, performing a piece by the great Django Reinhardt.
The Guitarra works in many styles, and in Part 4 you may see what it sounds like accompanying me in the next Third Culture Music collaboration! ๐ ๐ ๐ป

What makes musical languages special? ๐ถ ๐
The 'guitarra portuguesa' as demonstrated here by Dutch traveller "O Caracol" (๐ See Part 1) differs from the normal guitar, the mandolin, banjo & EVEN the Greek bouzouki in one particular way...
The plucking style!
Using two prosthetic "thumb-nails", Caracol creates unique Portuguese rhythms with a pinching action.
The Guitarra also has a very unique tuning, nothing to see with anything else of it's kind. It's vibrant, reverberating medieval sound comes from 5 to 6 sets of double-strings, not tuned low to high like a standard guitar but a mixture, creating a very special sonority!
๐ถ
The world of music is full of surprises...

"Music crosses boundaries... and maps the songlines of the World"...
A Dutch man called "O Caracol" demonstrating the Guitarra Portuguesa, a traditional guitar not dissimilar from the Greek bouzouki, supposedly the remnant of a family of medieval guitars once popular in Europe.
The 'guitarra' has subsisted as an icon of Portuguese music, a signature feature of the national music "fado", and who would've thought the first I would hear of it was from a Dutch man! ๐ณ๐ฑ ๐
Jan (his real name) came to Portugal in the 70s and landed in Fuseta, a village in the East Algarve where I met him, and after several trips back and forth from his homeland he decided to settle permanently.
When he first arrived, the locals saw his backpack and sleeping back, and he gained a reputation and a nickname: "O Carocol" meaning "the snail" ๐ ๐คฃ
A very talented performer and composer, he's toured and played with various groups in the style of Mediterranean Fusion, and now retires and serenades the folk of Fuseta with his mastery of their native instrument ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐

This Valentine´s Day, have you considered the serendipity of love?
"Then I followed her home,
to a place yet unknown,
a feeling so sure,
on the Cote d'Armor...
Time, the mirrored hours, they spoke
a harmony of hopes
led me into embrace
Serendipitous grace"
I think love can come when you least expect it...
Searching far and wide, my life as a TCK travelling musician has led me some far-flung places, but not too often into the path of someone willing to journey with me.
How does this work? The ideal that the life you´ve chosen may fit with the will of someone else, or that somehow your fates both intertwine into the discovery that you´re searching for the same thing?
The serendipity of love comes in many ways, but generally, I feel, if you free yourself from the torment of finding love and expressing desire.
Let yourself float like a leaf in the wind to ´your´ destination, do what makes you ´you´ and seek only peace for yourself.
You will, in a time pre-designed find that dream-sharer along your path.
"La vie de troubadour" was written together with my serendipitous partner and adapts influences from the French & Breton music styles.
The lyrics are a mix of English and French and the term "troubadour" originates from an Old French word meaning ´travelling artist´.
And if it´s already happened for you, would you like to comment and share your experience of the serendipity of love?

An English folk-inspired original Christmas Carol and a lament to holidays shared at home and the eternal values around the world in the various holiday gatherings.
Home is a recurrent question as a TCK, migrant, refugee or any other type of traveller.
The ideal of returning to family, spending time with those you care for, choosing the place and defining how you choose to enjoy an annual cultural moment, is what can make Christmas a strange time for many.
What is your ideal during Christmas, how does it affect you as a traveller or fluid person? How far will you be going?

I've been blessed enough to share 4 concerts in the last weeks, all thanks to cafés, bars and cultural centres doing amazing work at promoting live music in Galicia, Spain.
Here I share my latest Showreel to give a glimpse into this incredible experience!
Hard to fully capture the live gig atmosphere though... Maybe next time you'll join me? ๐
A great crowd came along to support my performances, sing and clap along ๐, together as part of the latest "Troubadours Tour" (IG @Troubadours.tour) with watercolour artist Nati Calvo (IG @la_voie_est_libre) .
What a time! ๐ ¡Gracias á todos!

โWANT TO HEAR MORE? Check out online music sites for playlists of Fado do Portugal... who knows, you might fall for it too!

๐ป Here's to new friendships and the communal contribution of creativity ๐ถ ๐จ ๐
I am already enjoying more cross-cultural collaborations on the road, and am excited for those still to come! ๐๐๐

๐ WHAT UNIQUE MUSICAL LANGUAGES EXIST NEAR YOU?

The oud, and more 'World Instruments' will be featured on tracks on my upcoming album, 'To We the World' ๐
All the instruments have been learned over 10 years by myself through many passionate hours of study all on my own - a long arduous journey I have taken to create the roots-around-the-world capabilities of the Third Culture Sound ๐ธ ๐ป โ
ALBUM OUT this year 2023 - DON'T MISS THE UPDATE! ๐๐ค๐
